Starting with 6,000 massive ice blocks, carvers will work four weeks to create the nearly 17,000-square-foot frozen attraction.
AURORA, Colo. — More than two million pounds of ice will be transformed into a winter wonderland in Aurora this holiday season.
Thirty ice artisans arrived at Gaylord Rockies to begin work on the resort’s annual holiday exhibition “ICE.”
Gaylord Rockies said the carvers will start with 6,000 ice blocks to create the 17,000-square-foot frozen attraction. This year’s exhibition will celebrate the 2004 film “The Polar Express.”
The ice carvers traveled more than 5,700 miles from “Ice City” Harbin, China, home to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival. Blocks weighing 300 pounds will be carved using chippers, tongs, handsaws, grinders, and chainsaws.
It will take approximately four weeks to create the frozen attraction, which is scheduled to open Friday, Nov. 22.
