BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – A winter storm watch is in effect for South Central Kentucky as a winter weather system is expected to impact millions of people across the U.S. next week.
While winter weather isn’t as common in our region, preparing your home is always wise, according to Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety meteorologist Rachael Gauthier.
“We see tornadoes and hurricanes and things like that making headlines, but winter weather does a surprising amount of damage,” Gauthier said. “Last year alone, we saw more than $60 million in property damage just from winter. If anything, I think people need to really take it seriously and prepare ahead of time so that you don’t find yourself in the middle of a winter storm.”
Gauthier says preparing your home for winter weather doesn’t have to be expensive.
“Something as simple as just cleaning out your gutters is something that can prevent interior water,” Gauthier said. “If you …
