CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is offering additional energy assistance for those living in the 25 counties impacted by Hurricane Helene.
The additional funds are being allocated to help those in need with heating costs and repairs during the winter months.
Starting this Wednesday, applications for additional Disaster Energy Assistance funds will be accepted for eligible houses residing in one of these 25 counties:
Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey counties.
Funding through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program and Disaster Energy Assistance is available.
Here’s who is eligible:
A household must have at least one U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and:
- Have income equal to or less than 60% of the state median income
- Have resided in one of the identified 25 disaster declared counties …
