COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -On Tuesday, the Cimarron Hills Fire District says they are pushing a ballot that will help them recover lost funding from property tax cuts.
The Fire District is proposing ballot measure 6A that would allow them to collect up to a 1% sales tax in the area and generate 2.4 million dollars in revenue.
This is after a special session was held in August where lawmakers passed a property tax cut bill allowing Coloradans to pay less taxes on their homes, but cutting funding that many fire districts in the state rely on.
According to 6A, the Cimarron Hills fire district lost about 450,000 dollars in funding from the tax cuts so far. The fire chief expects to lose hundreds of thousands more through 2028 and says with the current budget the department cannot hire any more staff.
