Hospitals, MARTA, driver services and more: How the cybersecurity outage is affecting metro Atlanta [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A widely-used cybersecurity firm suffered a massive global outage Friday morning, affecting several government services, hospitals, businesses and more in metro Atlanta.

According to CrowdStrike, the problem was triggered by a faulty update and affects computers running Microsoft Windows. Companies, banks, government agencies, and others worldwide have reported service impacts, and the Federal Aviation Administration has grounded several major airlines.

In a statement, Microsoft said some Microsoft 365 apps and services have been restored, although problems still remain.

“We’re continuing to observe an increase in functionality and availability for the remaining impacted scenarios and we’re monitoring this closely to ensure we’re progressing towards full recovery,” the company wrote. “Microsoft is continuing to treat this event with the highest possible priority.”
