Gwinnett Police add e-commerce exchange parking spaces [Video]

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Police are hoping to make online sales safer. On Monday, the department announced new e-commerce exchange zones at every precinct and its headquarters.

“We’re seeing a rise in people making transactions late at night,” Sgt. Michele Pihera told 11Alive. “We don’t want you to engage in these transactions in the evening time, at your home, by yourself.”

These designated parking spots are in public, well-lit areas with 24/7 video surveillance. They’re designed to prevent problematic transactions from happening.

In January, the department arrested a 20-year-old from Snellville for a robbery that began with an online marketplace advertisement. They told 11Alive that the victim was selling a cell phone and let the buyer come to her home to complete the purchase.
