Gov. Bill Lee issues tax relief for those impacted by Helene [Video]

The governor’s office announced that those who have their primary homes in one of the eight counties hit by Helene can apply for a sales tax refund.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Revenue announced four tax relief measures for Tennessee businesses and people affected by Hurricane Helene.

The governor’s office said those who have primary homes in one of the eight counties (Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington) hit by Helene can apply for a sales tax refund of up to $2,500 on major appliances, furniture and building supplies.

A person can file only one claim per residence. 

The Department of Revenue extended the franchise and excise tax filing and payment due dates to May 1, 2025. They also extended the franchise tax Schedule G refund filing deadline for businesses located in those counties to May 1.
