GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) – The City of Gastonia will soon install 22 brand new security cameras throughout the city, doubling the number of cameras in use by the Gastonia Police Department.
According to police, the Flock cameras currently in use helped solve 55 cases in the city last year alone.
Eventually, there will be 43 cameras across the city. They’re funded by grants and operate 24/7 with video and photo capabilities, meaning neighbors aren’t paying for the cameras but can still benefit from them.
According to Gastonia Police Department, the Flock cameras help solve and deter crime across neighborhoods, businesses and schools. Officers also say they help keep officers safe and cut down on police response time.
Flock camera footage was used by police in 30 car theft cases, 12 shoplifting cases and six aggravated assault cases.
City council approved a two-year contract with Flock Safety for these newest cameras.
