FTC reaches settlement with Evolv Technology over alleged false marketing claims [Video]

Evolv must now notify certain K-12 school customers that they are able to cancel contracts.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The FTC has reached a proposed settlement with Evolv Technology regarding past marketing claims.

Evolv must now notify certain K-12 school customers with contracts from April 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, that they may opt to cancel their agreements.

The resolution said Evolv is barred from making false claims about its products’ ability to detect weapons or harmless personal items, accuracy in detecting weapons and false alarm rates compared to traditional metal detectors, and screening speed, labor cost savings, testing results, and any other performance aspects, including the use of AI or algorithms.

This settlement aligns with the FTC’s broader initiative, Operation AI Comply, aimed at ensuring truthful marketing of AI-driven technologies. The Commission unanimously approved the complaint and stipulated order, filed in the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts.
