ELBA, Ala. (WTVY) – Fostering Angels is a newer organization working to give back to foster families in Southeast Alabama.
It’s funded by the community. Those who volunteer there know the struggles foster children face firsthand.
Teresa Johnson is a foster grandmother.
“She had a rough home life and I found out they have taken her from school to a foster home,” Johnson said. “Whoever was taking care of her was put in jail. So, no questions asked. They took her away.”
A little girl once knew her as her Sunday school teacher. Now, she knows her as her grandmother.
“My daughter knew of her,” Johnson said. “The first thing my daughter said was, ‘I got to go get her.’ Eight years later, she’s ours.”
Johnson volunteers at Fostering Angels where she hears many stories similar to her family.
