Former treasurer of Hauser, Rathdrum sentenced for embezzelment | News [Video]

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — The Kootenai County District Court has sentenced a former North Idaho city treasurer to probation and community service for grand theft.

According to the Idaho State Tax Commission, Melissa Ann Taylor of Hauser was a volunteer treasurer for a youth tackle football league and wrote herself checks from the league’s bank account between 2019 and 2021.

Taylor then took this money to make auto and home payments.

The Idaho State Tax Commission said Taylor also filed fraudulent tax returns to conceal the embezzled funds.

Taylor is the former treasurer for the City of Hauser and former finance director for the City of Rathdrum.

Taylor has been sentenced to four years of probation, restitution of almost $32,000 and 200 hours of community service.
