Firefighters battled a large fire at the home that once belonged to former Kansas City Mayor Richard Berkley.The two-alarm fire was reported around 6:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of Greenway Terrace.A spokesperson for the Kansas City Fire Department said initial reports indicate the fire started in the garage and spread to the second floor of the home.Crews are currently working to bring the fire under control.No injuries have been reported.An older woman and a dog made it out of the home safely. Property records indicate the home belonged to Berkley, who served as Kansas City’s mayor from 1979 to 1991. Records indicate the home is valued at more than $1 million. He is Kansas City’s longest serving mayor on record.
