Former Birmingham acrobat honors mother’s legacy of community, remembers Rickwood Field performances [Video]

The historic Rickwood Field is a cultural staple here in the Magic City, but its impact stretches far beyond baseball.Andre Parker said he and some of his neighbors from Pratt City performed during intermission at the Black Barons for about a year — even performing in front of big names in baseball like Satchel Paige and Hank Aaron. The team known as the Daredevils practiced their routines in the same yard Parker’s family grew up in.This week is all about honoring the legacy of Negro Leagues, but Parker said he’s honoring his mother, who was the Daredevils coach.
