Flooded roads, closed businesses as Tropical Storm Debby hangs over Downtown Charleston [Video]

CHARLESTON, Sc. (Atlanta News First) – Businesses are shuttered and roads are flooded as Tropical Storm Debby hangs over Charleston.

“I’ve had water in the garage, on the ground floor with each of the major storms,” said Sally, who’s lived in Downtown Charleston for 30 years.

Some go the heavy duty route to guard their home from the storm.

“We have sandbags that we have from the hurricane last year, but we live far enough up that we’ve never really had to use them luckily,” said Emory Wyatt, who recently moved to Charleston.

Others prioritize the kitchen.

“We bought about $300 worth of groceries and $100 worth of beer,” said Alec Cohen.

Charleston residents are no strangers to flooding because the city is at sea level. Keith Fletcher and his wife Diane recently moved to Charleston and are already used to the constant battle against the tides.
