Another red flag warning is prompting traffic restrictions in the Topanga area.
With gusts of up to 50 miles per hour expected on Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department requested the restrictions out of concern that if a fire broke out in the area, two-way traffic flow would delay evacuations from homes in the densely wooded area.
Topanga Canyon Blvd. will be closed between Mulholland Drive and Pacific Coast Highway from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Only residents and local business traffic will be allowed into other area from the south.
“Only residents and local business traffic will be allowed into the canyon, and the sheriff’s office will be staffing the closures,” Caltrans spokesperson Mike Comeaux said. “They will make the determination regarding allowing people in.”
