Federal government continues assessing damage in Naugatuck Valley [Video]

SEYMOUR, Conn. (WFSB) – The federal government continues assessing the massive amount of damage in the Naugatuck Valley.

It has been a week and a half since historic flooding wrecked communities.

The FEMA team is looking at home damage in Seymour.

The small business association is with them as business owners are hoping their damage is severe enough to qualify for the disaster loan program.

Route 67 diner is a Seymour staple.

Inside, it looks nothing like the family atmosphere folks have enjoyed for decades.

Historic flooding pushed mud in, damaged equipment, and left behind the smell of dirty water.

Owner Mike Abe is trying to stay positive.

“It seems a lot of people are going to help us and that’s our goal,” Abe said. “We estimate we lost close to one million dollars.”

The disaster loan program could provide large loans with low interest rates.
