Evacuation orders issued for some North Shore residents amid flooding [Video]

Several dozen homes and businesses were flooded on the North Shore when an atmospheric river hit B.C. on Saturday. Officials say the rainfall caused numerous rivers to overflow their banks and stream through the community. Sohrab Sandhu has the details.

Residents of six properties in North Vancouver’s Deep Cove area were ordered to evacuate Sunday evening as local officials declared a state of emergency due to flooding.

According to the District of North Vancouver, the mandatory evacuation affects six homes on Panorama Drive following a severe rainstorm that struck the region Saturday.

The District stated in a social media post that the evacuation order was issued following inspections by qualified professionals, which revealed that potential failures of private infrastructure posed imminent risks to public safety.

“The decision to declare a state of local emergency and issue a mandatory evacuation is not taken lightly,” the statement said.
