EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVY) – Close to 50 animals in Barbour County could soon lose shelter or even be put to death.
That’s because the Southern Souls Animal League (SSAL) is in immediate danger of having to close its doors.
It is a problem many shelters across the nation are impacted by, which is lack of funding.
Southern Souls relies mostly on proceeds earned from their thrift shop.
However, the summer slowdown for businesses has hurt their ability to sustain.
”Right now, we are within two weeks of closing,” Anna Shepard, the director of the shelter, said.
Southern Souls has been dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals in Eufaula and surrounding areas.
However, that could come to an end because of a lack of funding.
