EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A hard-working teen from El Paso was named national girl’s wrestling champion.
Erica Cobos, a wrestler and junior at Americas High School, won nationals in Omaha, Nebraska over the weekend.
Fans of Cobos greeted her at the El Paso International Airport when she returned home Monday night.
“We love her, we’re very proud of her,” Cobos’ parents said.
The past four years have been all about wrestling, said the champ.
“It’s like day and night. I go to wrestling, I go to practice wrestling, I skip really important events,” Cobos said.
Cobos’ father, Fred, said it’s been a long journey for his daughter.
“The negativity motivates her to be the best,” explained Cobos’ parents.
Cobos is also a national football champion and was ranked in power lifting.
She recognized her team, coach, parents and the wrestling community for her success.
