‘Criminals found new opportunities to target online consumers’ – SABC News [Video]

The South African Express Parcel Association has warned that criminals have found new opportunities to target unsuspecting online consumers.

It says an increase in online shopping has created more potential victims.

The association’s CEO Garry Marshall has urged consumers to remain vigilant.

“So if you think about what they’re after, what we’re talking about here is this kind of scam where they send you an email and name a popular courier company, and you owe us R34 in duties or taxes or whatever and click here. Once you click, you then give your credit card information to pay that R30 rand, because they always make it low values. So it’s kind of below the radar and for you not to get into a big panic about it.”
