SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley confirmed on Friday that a criminal investigation is happening at the South Dakota Department of Revenue.
The Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating a “criminal matter,” according to Jackley.
The matter was reported by the DOR. Jackley did not specify what kind of crime occurred.
UPDATE: The Department of Revenue said in a statement to Dakota News Now that the employee has been terminated after “suspicious activity.”
Jackley said this investigation is separate from a previous fraudulent title investigation into a former South Dakota Division of Motor Vehicles employee for forging 13 vehicle titles between 2016 and 2023, totaling $400,000 worth of loans. Since the former employee has passed away, no charges were filed.
The DOR investigation marks the third investigation involving state employees in the last two months.
