Crews working to restore power for thousands in extreme heat [Video]

GRAFTON, Ohio (WJW) – Strong storms caused significant damage in various parts of Northeast Ohio on Tuesday, knocking out power for thousands.

Crews from FirstEnergy and other suppliers have been working around-the-clock to restore power, but have been faced with extreme heat, making the job exponentially difficult.

In Eaton Township, 20 power poles were destroyed by a microburst on State Route 83 and Capel Road., knocking out power for hundreds in the area.

Resident Marcia Harmon said several roads were closed due to the damage.

“We could not get back to our home because the road was closed because they said powerlines,” Harmon said. “And then we also heard that there was a fire which we’re thinking, oh my gosh, you know, is it our home?”
