WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Following hours of winter weather, a Kansas man went to pick up his girlfriend from work, but neither would ever return home again. The tragedy ended nearly 18 hours later in a way no family ever hopes for.
Nathaniel Boyd, 24, and Whitney Allmond, 26, had been together about a year. In that time, Boyd had already become a father figure to Allmond’s two young children, but their future together is now no longer a reality.
Investigators say Boyd had picked up Allmond from work and was taking her back home about 12:30 a.m. last Sunday. Due to inclement weather, as the couple were headed southbound on Interstate 235, their car rolled down an embankment, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Both Boyd and Allmond were thrown from the car. Investigators say neither was wearing a seat belt.
