Corporate tax increase ballot measure debated at Springfield forum | News [Video]

If passed, Measure 118 would increase the corporate minimum tax by 3% for companies with sales in Oregon totaling over $25 million. While proponents say the money raised would benefit the Oregonians who receive it, opponents say consumers will end up paying more for goods and services.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A handful of people gathered at a Springfield City Club forum Thursday afternoon to listen to arguments for and against a proposed corporate tax increase on the November ballot.

Proponents of Measure 118 said the initiative will help people financially, while opponents strongly disagree.

“The idea was ‘wouldn’t it be great if giant corporations paid a little bit more taxes and we use that money to improve the lives of every single Oregonian,’” said Antonio Gisbert, chief petitioner for the ballot measure. “That’s really what we’re talking about with Measure 118, that’s all it is.”
