Cleveland Planning Commission OKs plans that could provide home for Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame [Video]

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Urban Community School’s plans for a recreation center that provides a location for the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame were approved Friday by the City Planning Commission.

The independent, nonprofit interdenominational school in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood has been expanded over the last five years, Tom Gill, the school’s president, told city planning commissioners during a June meeting.

“We are looking for ways to expand summer programs, evening programs for the school but also to meet the need of Near West Rec, a local [recreation] league,” Gill said. “So think of it as an extension of the school during the day, but a community hub, evenings and weekends. That’s the big picture of how we’re thinking about it.”
