Classic car scams on the rise, BBB urges buyers to verify online deals [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Finding a classic car in good condition is rare. To find one for a low price could seem like a good deal, but it might be too good to be true.

According to the Better Business Bureau, an estimated $45 million has been lost in fake vehicle scams across the nation. In Alabama, an estimated $6 million has been lost in just a few months. Some of that from here on the Gulf Coast.

After 25 years of business, one local classic car dealership decided to close its doors last year.

Soon after, the company’s former manager started getting flooded with calls, and in some cases, visitors to his home asking to see the classic car they said they had purchased.
