Clarksburg VA Medical Center opens Medical Foster Home program [Video]

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center is starting a new program that allows veterans to be taken care of in the comfort of a home.

In the Medical Foster Home program, veterans live in the caregiver’s private residence where they are provided with 24/7 care and assistance. One such home in Upshur County is ready to take a veteran, and another in Taylor County is working through the application process. The caregiver in Upshur County has more than 20 years of experience in the field.

Amber Hartsell, who is the coordinator of the program, said that it’s existed nationally for several years, but Louis A. Johnson just localized it in 2023.
