The city of Flint started the process of handing out 68,000 residential garbage and recycling bins on Monday to city residents.

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – The city of Flint started the process of handing out 68,000 residential garbage and recycling bins on Monday to city residents.

All 34,000 households in the city will receive a plastic bin for trash and recycling this fall for no charge.

Distribution began Monday and is expected to last about a month.

The city received a $1 million grant from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, and more than $3 million from the Recycling Partnership to pay for the bins.

“I think our streets are going to look a lot cleaner,” says Neighborhood Association President Annette Reynolds. “The neighbors are not going to have to pick their neighbor’s trash. I think it will clean up the blight, in terms of the trash …
