Child injured in fire at home on southwest side of town [Video]

Officials believe the fire may have been started in a fire pit behind the home.

SAN ANTONIO — A child was seriously injured in a fire at a home on the southwest side of San Antonio early Sunday morning.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 5800 block of Elm Valley Drive near Five Palms Drive and Ray Ellison Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. for reports of a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found a fire that had likely spread from an unattended fire pit behind the home to the house itself.

There were two children and two adults at home at the time of the fire. A seven-year-old child suffered serious burns but the 10-year-old child was unharmed, officials say. The parents suffered minor injuries.

No information was provided about what was being burned in the fire pit.

This is an ongoing investigation.
