CHENEY, WA — Governor Jay Inslee has officially proclaimed October 2 as Taste Washington Day, coinciding with the start of National Farm to School Month in the state.
This day showcases the important link between farms and schools, providing Washington’s children with the opportunity to enjoy and learn about the diverse array of healthy, delicious, and locally produced foods.
The Cheney School District is leading the charge, making local sourcing a top priority in its cafeterias. From fresh Washington salmon to apples picked from nearby farms, the district is committed to providing students with high-quality, locally sourced meals—all funded through state grants and offered free to students through a new program.
