Catholic school students will soon be getting upgrades to their computer systems.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) says the rollout of the new devices has started which will see ageing equipment such as Chromebooks, iPads, Macs and Edwins replaced.
The board says the existing systems are starting to break down causing reduced efficiency and productivity for both students and teachers and can lead to classroom disruptions.
Additionally, the board says the older systems are vulnerable to cyber security issues because of outdated software, limited support available from manufacturers and compatibility issues.
In the past, such equipment replacement was left in the hands of individual schools but the board is now moving away from a decentralized procurement and technology device distribution model to a centralized model.
