Vice President Kamala Harris has officially deviated from one of President Joe Bidens policy plans, announcing Wednesday a vastly different proposal for capital gains tax and other tax benefits.
The stage is set for the first presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump next Tuesday.”This is a really important debate because it might be the only one we get with the nominees at it,” said Todd Belt, a political analyst.Harris agreed to the debate rules on Wednesday. These rules include no studio audience, no opening or closing statements, no props, and candidate microphones, which will be live only for the candidate whose turn it is to speak.Both candidates are making their economic pitches ahead of the face-off. Trump announced a “Federal Efficiency Commission” if he is elected, with billionaire Elon Musk running it.”Tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms,” Trump said.Trump also proposed cutting taxes for corporations and imposing tariffs on imports to boost domestic manufacturing.”My message is simple: make your product in America and only in America,” Trump said.Meanwhile, Harris is spending the weekend in Pittsburgh preparing for the debate and making her own economic pitch this week.”Billionaires and big corporations must pay their fair share in taxes,” Harris said.Harris vowed to raise high-end capital-gains taxes and proposed a ten-fold expansion of the small-business startup tax deduction.”I want to see 25 million new small business applications by the end of my first term,” Harris said.While Harris agrees to the debate rules, her campaign says the former prosecutor is at a “fundamental disadvantage” with the mics muted because it will limit the number of direct exchanges with Trump.Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will debate for 90 minutes on Tuesday.
