Prizes, from various businesses, were respresented by local bachelors and raffled off to bidders who filled the RiverBender Community Center to participate in the Men of the River Bend Bachelor Auction. Alton Robert Bob Sanders Waste Systems, Inc. was named the River Bend Growth Associations September 2017 Small Business of the Month. The business that started in 1936 has been passed down from Bob Sr. to sons Bobby and Glenn. The brothers have grown Sanders Waste Systems into a thriving business serving Madison, St. Clair, Jersey, Calhoun, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Bond, Clinton, Washington and Monroe Counties in Illinois and St. Louis and St. Charles Counties in Missouri. Known for their generosity, the Sanders brothers are quick to help churches in their service area by donating dumpsters when they have picnics or outdoor fundraising events. Sanders also had roll-off containers painted pink to give visibility to those struggling with breast cancer. Working Towards a Cure is a 100% volunteer run organization that pays for things that insurance cannot or will not pay for for breast cancer patients in Madison, St. Clair and Jersey counties in Illinois. Many of the proposed budget cuts made by the Illinois governor will directly affect many programs in our area and some of those programs may no longer be able to continue. Non-for-profit representatives from across the area gathered today to voice their opinion and urge representatives in springfield to not allow these cuts to happen.
Founded in 2005, The Riverbend Humane Society is a non-profit organization that operates The Riverbend Animal Shelter, just south of Jerseyville, where a no-kill policy gives homeless animals a chance to live out their lives and find loving homes. The Hope for Animals Resale Shop and Grooming Parlor in Wood River raise funds to keep the shelter running. The Riverbend Humane Society is supported entirely by funds from the resale shop and grooming parlor, donations, and grants.
