California Prop 35 | Increase Medi-Cal funding with permanent tax [Video]

On November 5, California voters will decide whether to permanently implement a statewide tax on health insurance plans to increase funding for Medi-Cal services.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, Californians will vote on 10 statewide ballot propositions. Each would be a new law that needs voter approval to take effect. 

One of the state ballot measures, Proposition 35, would make a statewide tax on health insurance plans permanent to increase funding for Medi-Cal services.

What is Prop 35?

If passed, Prop 35 would make a tax on health care plans permanent. Money from the tax revenue would be used to fund Medi-Cal services.

Roughly a third of the state’s population uses Medi-Cal, the public insurance program for folks with low income or disabilities.

Money from the tax would mainly be used to pay doctors, hospital services, and more
