Business owners in Eastown excited to be included in ArtPrize [Video]

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids is already starting to look more colorful as artists begin showcasing their work for ArtPrize 2024. The competition officially kicks off on Friday night, but business owners are hard at work getting spaces ready to display the pieces.

Crystal and Roger Haight own Argos Book Shop in Eastown and are excited to be an ArtPrize venue for the first time this year.

“Eastown is a really neat area. It’s different than downtown,” Crystal Haight said.

Following a pilot year with five venues in 2023, ArtPrize has officially expanded its districts to include Eastown in this year’s competition. Argos is one of more than two dozen businesses in that area serving as venues this year, according to ArtPrize organizers.

“The unfortunate side of the past ArtPrize being only downtown is some of the outer shopping districts were kind of left behind,” Crystal Haight said. …
