The fire was reported at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday on MCAS Miramar near Kearny Villa Rd and Miramar Rd.
SAN DIEGO — A brush fire was burning near the airfield on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Monday afternoon near Kearny Villa Rd and Miramar Rd where smoke could be seen from Interstate 15 and other homes and businesses nearby.
Fire crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread before 4 p.m. after the fire had burned around 12 acres.
Chopper aerials showed the fire burning just south of the airfield on the base in open vegetation. Fire crews were seen fighting the flames both on the ground with multiple engines and with water-dropping helicopters from the air.
The slow-moving fire had burned approximately 3 acres as of 3:15 p.m. and was not posing any immediate threats to structures in the area.
