Broadway business owners react to grant program to replace funds lost because of construction [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – When local businesses owners on Broadway Street found out about the City of Toledo’s new grant program, they hoped it would be their saving grace.

City officials created the Legacy Corridor Business Resilience Grant to help stores impacted by road construction. On Broadway, store owners said they’ve been struggling for months amid heavy construction.

“Five months ago, everything was going so great and now it’s going down,” said Hector Garcia, who is the landlord for El Rincon, a restaurant on Broadway. “Everyone’s losing big time.”

Silvano Cruz, the owner of El Rincon, said he’s lost over $150,000 during construction because customers don’t want to navigate the construction, or just don’t know how.

That’s why when City of Toledo officials announced a grant program to help replace losts funds, he thought things would finally turn around.
