Better Business Bureau warns of Medicare supply scams [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — According to the Better Business Bureau, some people who use Medicare are getting charged for supplies and equipment they did not buy.

The BBB said it has found companies who claim to be accredited Medicare suppliers that are scamming recipients for medical supplies and equipment they never ordered.

Carl Bates is the president and CEO of the Birmingham BBB. He said the BBB has noticed it through BBB reviews online.

“These are companies that look like they are official medical suppliers who are charging seniors for equipment or supplies that they never ordered,” Bates said. “It comes on your monthly statement. You never notice it. You don’t dispute it. The equipment never existed. It was never shipped to you. They’re just falsifying these charges to collect the money from Medicare.”
