JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Bessemer Police have made several arrests in a crime spree that targeted more than 30 businesses over the past two months and stretched across Jefferson County and other areas.

Authorities say on Thanksgiving Day a Bessemer officer saw a burglary in progress at Seafood King on Academy Lane. Three suspects ran from the scene. After a brief foot chase, two suspects were caught and a third was taken into custody at a nearby home.

Harrison Hooks II, 30, of Bessemer and Derrick Thomas, 26, also of Bessemer have been charged and are being held in the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer.

After those arrests, Special Operations officers and detectives executed search warrants at two nearby homes already under investigation for their connections to the recent string of multi-jurisdictional burglaries. During these searches, officers recovered additional evidence and seized multiple vehicles linked to the burglary ring.
