This investigation comes more than a year after a reported shooting on campus turned out to be a hoax.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the threat was allegedly linked to a post online showcasing several weapons and a threat to shoot up the campus at East Central High School in east Bexar County.
Earlier this week, students reported the Instagram post to school administration. They got district police involved, who requested BCSO deputies help with the investigation. Investigators did link it to a high school student who they believed was behind the post.
East Central ISD said in a statement that deputies and ECPD searched the student’s home and did not find any weapons. The district says the photo used in the Instagram post was sourced from a Google search. The student was detained Tuesday night and will “face significant legal and disciplinary action.”
