Pet scams escalated during the pandemic and scammers are back at it.

While you’re encouraged to adopt from a local animal shelter, Amie Mitchell, CEO of Better Business Bureau Eastern Oklahoma shares how to avoid falling victim to fake breeders.

“Pet Scams are at an all time high unfortunately. One of the reasons is that it pulls on your heart strings. You see this beautiful dog online and you just gotta have it. Unfortunately that’s where a lot of the scams come in. The scammers have gotten really good about picking a specific breed and creating a website just for that one particular breed. Unfortunately, it’s got the cutest and fakest pictures that you can find online and then once you get into it, they’re going to start asking you to wire money and it just gets complicated and it’s a whole scam,” said Mitchell.
