COLUMBIA, S.C. β Improvements to traffic, safety, and accessibility for a busy Columbia corridor are on the way, with Richland County officials breaking ground Thursday on the Atlas Road widening project.
The project is being funded through the Richland County’s Transportation Penny Tax. Atlas Road is currently a two-lane road lined with small businesses and steady traffic, but the new project will bring three new lanes including center turning lanes, sidewalks, and bike lanes.
βIt will be a good idea for them to go walking, running, exercise, kids can walk,β said Attrophia Bannister, who lives near Atlas Road.
