ATLANTA — Metro Atlanta is now home to 5.2 million residents, following population growth of 1.22% from April 2023 to April 2024, according to estimates released Wednesday by Atlanta Regional Commission.
More than 532,000 people now live in the City of Atlanta, which grew by roughly 2.1% over the past year. The state’s largest city picked up new residents at a quicker pace than any of the individual counties in the region, a continuation of last year’s trend, according to reporting from the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The growth underscores the ongoing demand to live in urban neighborhoods within close proximity of jobs, transit and amenities.
The 11-county region added 62,700 people during the 12-month period, a slight downtick compared to estimates from the previous year. Cherokee, Henry and Forsyth counties expanded at the fastest paces, while Clayton, DeKalb and Rockdale had the slowest paces of growth. For the …
