At National Night Out, Easton seeks thoughts on neighborhood revitalization plan [Video]

South Side Easton residents are invited to weigh in during Tuesday’s National Night Out on a new neighborhood revitalization program.

On a hot afternoon Thursday, Easton Mayor Sal Panto Jr. and city Councilman Frank Pintabone gathered under a sun-shade canopy for an update about the Blueprint Communities Project for Easton’s South Side neighborhood.

Started by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Downtown Association, the Blueprint Communities program selected South Side for revitalization. Local leaders, including the mayor and Pintabone are receiving 18 months of training associated with the effort to help improve the neighborhood.

Some improvements planned for the South Side include incentivizing local businesses to create neighborhood services such as groceries, dry cleaners, and laundromats. Residents should be able to purchase their basic needs within walking distance, officials said, and South Side residents would like to have the close-knit community that local businesses provide.
