Anthony Wayne Schools cuts staff going into new school year, looks to pass levy in November [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Anthony Wayne Local Schools District is starting a new school year with a new superintendent, but the district is facing the same old money issues, and those are now resulting in new cuts.

“We’ve reduced administrative positions. We’ve reduced some custodial positions and so forth. So, positions have been lost,” Interim Superintendent Kevin Herman said.

Herman said the cuts are the direct result of not one, but two levies that failed in the past year. Overall, he said, the district reduced its 2025 fiscal year budget by $1.5 million to cope, and he’s looking for new ways to bring in revenue.

“[We’re] applying for grants, possibly starting a foundation and so forth. So, we’re looking at other ways to increase revenues, so that it doesn’t all fall back on our local taxpayers,” Herman said.
