MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – xAI wants to buy more land from the City of Memphis, and it’s willing to almost double the price tag.
According to our news partner, Memphis Business Journal, the artificial intelligence company is eyeing 13 acres on Plant Road, which is just a stone’s throw from the data center.
The offer on the table: $820,000. The asking price for the plot is $482,000.
xAI wants to build and operate a greywater plant on the land, with the idea of minimizing its hefty water use by recycling wastewater, rather than tapping so heavily into the Memphis Aquifer.
The Memphis City Council is set to discuss this request in Tuesday’s meeting.
If the sale is approved, this would be Memphis’ first greywater plant.
