After six weeks of “painstaking” talks and plenty of bargaining, Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and nine Independent TDs have agreed a Programme for Government, writes Sarah McGuinness and Craig Hughes.
The policy platform, which has routinely been described as the “bible” for the next coalition, covers 162 pages and sets out what the new government hopes to achieve over the next five years.
So what do the next five years have in store?
Here are their key policy pledges:
ECONOMY
÷Create 300,000 extra jobs by 2030.
÷Publish a new action plan for competitiveness and productivity within a year.
÷Prepare a new Medium Term Fiscal Plan setting the State’s budgetary plans for the next five years.
÷Support a new US-based Economic Advisory panel made up of senior Irish or Irishlinked decision-makers in key sectors.
÷Continue to engage with the OECD on international tax reform.
