Government gives 9.5m to nursing homes for improvement works [Video]

The government has allotted €9.5m in funding for 400 nursing homes as part of the the Nursing Home Resident Safety Improvement Scheme.

Nursing homes that have carried out structural works covered under the scheme could claim the cost of the works if they were carried out between the start of the year and 15 November, subject to fulfilling the application criteria.

The scheme, which has been overseen by the Department of Health, is intended to improve infection prevention and fire safety in private and voluntary nursing homes.

Up to €25,000 was available to each qualifying nursing home for structural works to improve compliance with the standards published by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) in relation to fire precautions and infection control. 

Around 85% of applicants availed of the full €25,000 reimbursement.
