MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Uptown Marion celebrated Small Business Saturday at its local shops on Saturday.
Small Business Saturday is an initiative meant to provide small business owners with some extra customers for the holiday shopping season.
Sam Christiansen came back home to Marion for the holidays. She and her mother checked out Uptown Marion’s local businesses on Small Business Saturday.
“I didn’t even know any of this existed. And I love it,” Sam Christiansen said.
Christiansen said she likes to shop local.
“It feels better to support someone that grew up next door to you than a big corporation where you don’t know anyone,” Christiansen said.
Over 30 businesses joined Marion Chamber of Commerce’s shop small event.
“We’ve been swamped so that’s been very helpful,” small business owner Joni Evans said.
Evans just opened her shop called “Sea Love” where you can make your own candles. She said the Small Business Saturday makes a big difference.
