RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The holiday season is here and small businesses like Kimmie Candy are preparing for the 14th annual Small Business Saturday.
“We are the biggest little city in the world. When people come in there is always a feeling of community. The excitement on a child’s face once they leave here is just amazing. It makes me feel like we got to keep doing this,” said Kimmie Candy’s CEO and Founder Joseph Dutra.
The candy store joined the Reno community in 2006. Now, there are nearly 50 employees who manufacture and sell candy locally, nationally and to neighboring countries.
But Dutra says it’s important to keep the money local. “You don’t realize that, if you are buying Hersey’s candy back on the East Coast then really that money is going out of Nevada. So we are trying to keep as much business as we can in our local community because it helps everybody.”
